Curriculum Overview

Welcome to our curriculum page. We are very proud of the curriculum that we offer at Broadwas C of E Primary School. The curriculum is being reviewed and developed to fully equip our pupils with the key skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in life. The teachers use interesting and relevant topics combined with a wide range of materials, visitors and trips to engage children and maximise learning.

The following documents give more information about our curriculum provision. As always, we are currently reviewing, adapting and updating our curriculum offer. More information and documents will be added each term.

Please note that with mixed year-group classes we organise curriculum content into a two year rolling programme so that duplication of topics is avoided. Each class has a Year A and Year B curriculum overview.

Curriculum letters and Knowledge Organisers outlining current learning are available in each of our 'Class Page' sections of the website.

If you would like further information about our curriculum, please contact the school at any time. Our telephone number is 01886 821347, email head@broadwas.worcs.sch.uk

Reading

We read books from a variety of schemes integrated with a core Oxford Reading Tree Scheme. We are keen to get children reading real books as soon as they are reading confidently, with fluency and expression. This may happen in KS1 or KS2.

Phonics

We use the Read Write Inc. resources to teach phonics in a systematic way. Children undertake the phonics screening test at the end of Year 1. Children who do not meet the standard, retake at the end of Year 2.
