We are a small Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School. We have a single form intake each year with 15 pupils per year group. We have strong links with our local parish church, St Mary Magdalene, Broadwas.
These links include:
Our school is also advised, supported and inspected by the local Diocesan Board of Education.
Our school is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School. As such, it owes its origin to the Church and was originally established to provide a service to the children of the Parish. Our school opened on 1st May 1863.
The Governing Body of a Voluntary Aided School is the admitting body not the LEA. They have agreed a legal admission policy with the Diocese and the LEA, which can be found below.
The school's voluntary status is reflected in the composition of the Governing Body, which has Foundation Governors elected in consultation with the Lower Teme Valley Parochial Church Council of St Mary Magdalene Church. You can find out more about the composition of our Governing Body below.
The present Broadwas School was built in 1862. It was extended towards the road in 1888 to provide a separate space for an infant class.
Further alterations and additions to the school arrived in 1932.
One of our longest serving stakeholders was Miss Mabel Daniels entered the school as a pupil in 1904 at the age of 6 years. She stayed at the school as a monitor and a teacher until she retired in December 1967.
In 1939 the school had an additional number of pupils when 15 children were evacuated from Birmingham to stay with families in Broadwas.
Finally, uniform was first discussed as late as September 1976!
Many thanks to Mrs Leach for the wonderful research on the school!
