About Our School and Opening Times

We are a small Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School. We have a single form intake each year with 15 pupils per year group. We have strong links with our local parish church, St Mary Magdalene, Broadwas.

These links include:

  • Visits to the school by local clergy to lead collective worship;
  • Fortnightly visits from the ‘Open the Book’ Team;
  • Visits by the children to St Mary Magdalene Church to support learning in RE;
  • School services held in conjunction with the church to celebrate Harvest, Christmas, Mothering Sunday and Easter.

Our school is also advised, supported and inspected by the local Diocesan Board of Education.

What does 'Voluntary Aided' mean?

Our school is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School. As such, it owes its origin to the Church and was originally established to provide a service to the children of the Parish. Our school opened on 1st May 1863.

The Governing Body of a Voluntary Aided School is the admitting body not the LEA. They have agreed a legal admission policy with the Diocese and the LEA, which can be found below.

The school's voluntary status is reflected in the composition of the Governing Body, which has Foundation Governors elected in consultation with the Lower Teme Valley Parochial Church Council of St Mary Magdalene Church. You can find out more about the composition of our Governing Body below.
