Week beginning 8th June 2020

Welcome to Week 2 of the second half of the Summer Term. This week our topic focus will be David Attenborough and Climate Change. Below you will find English and Maths as well as Topic and PE ideas for the week. All of the spellings lists are now completed so if you wish to practise any spellings you find particularly challenging, please feel free to go over all past spelling patterns and rules.

Remember that you DO NOT have to complete all of the tasks below. Work at a pace that suits your child, take regular breaks and enjoy the learning!
Thank you for sharing all of your fantastic work so far. Please keep sending in your photos in – we love seeing them! Our Gallery is looking wonderful and it has been a joy to see your achievements!

Today's work is a Long Maths and a Short English.

The Maths for Year 6 is addition of 4 and 5 digit numbers, including an explanation of whether answers are correct or not. In addition, there is also a second sheet with an addition investigation.

The Maths for Year 5 is developing their understanding of Roman Numerals. There are some great practise activities and a challenge to solve!

There are several activities for the short English. You may choose just one of the activities or you may complete all of them.

Today's work is Short Maths and a Long English.

The Maths for Year 6 is subtraction with 4 and 5 digit numbers along with an explanation of whether answers are correct or not.

The Maths for Year 5 is a My Maths activity looking at solving a Roman Numeral challenge. This builds on from their work yesterday.

There are 2 activities for English today. The FIRST is a reading comprehension based on the life of the famous author and television star, David Walliams. You will see 3 separate reading activities with either 1,2 or 3 stars at the bottom of the pages. Choose the appropriate level for your child. The reading comprehension with 3 stars is the most challenging. Your child only needs to read and answer questions on one of the levels. The SECOND English activity is practising accurate use of semi-colons to separate clauses. Again, similar to the reading comprehension, there are either 1,2 or 3 stars at the bottom of each page for you to decide which level is appropriate for your child. You do NOT have to do all three.

Today's work is a Long Maths and a Short English

The Maths for Year 6 is multiplication: finding missing numbers within different contexts; using known facts to find out answers and solving word problems.

The Maths for Year 5 is again looking at Roman Numerals and seeing if you can convert numbers, just like code-breaking!

The English is a Quick Write, based on a mystery ship lying at the bottom of the sea.

Today's work is a Short Maths and a Long English.

The Year 6 short maths is division. The children will be using a Carroll diagram to categorise division facts.

The Year 5 short maths is an activity based on children revisiting their knowledge of counting patterns and counting in steps.

The English today is poetry analysis - using poems written by the Victorian poets, Robert Louis Stephenson and Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

Today's work is a Long Maths and a Short English.

The Year 6 maths is a continuation of division: this includes missing number questions and word problems

The Year 5 maths is a practise of adding on or subtracting near multiples of 10, 100 and 1000. As it is a Friday, start with the practise sheet and see how the children get on from there. If they would like to do more there is an interesting investigation later on in the pack.

The English today is a Quick Write.
